7/5/20 Notes from Becky: Here is a summary from the 'political action' group that I was a part of.  (Working group: Please feel free to edit my list or summary if I neglected to mention something important.)

We started our time together talking about the various ways to define political action. In part, Diane's involvement in Sunderland's human rights commission working group helped provide some important perspectives (to me at least). From this conversation, Diane reminded us that establishing a goal / objective will help direct us in our actions. But before we establish / choose an objective, we need to get a better handle on the potential problems and how they manifest. After this point, we can then choose one problem / question to pursue as a church group, which will give us direction and options for action. We then spent the remaining time generating a list of potential problem areas in the political realm.

Here is our list in no particular order.

1. voting and boundaries for town districts

2. under-representation of people of color in schools at the teacher and administrative level

3. police treatment of people of color (e.g. demonstrations, arrest records, etc.)

4. under-representation on town committees / working groups

Next time we meet we need to add to this list, and then see if we can find some consensus for which area we would like to tackle.
